Boys from parishes across the Diocese of Meath interested in joining the Cathedral Choristers (boys' choir) are invited to join an open day at 3pm on Saturday, November 16th. This event is open to any boy in or above 3rd class of primary school who would like to learn more about being a Chorister at Mullingar Cathedral. No previous experience singing or knowledge of an instrument is required, only an interest in singing. Every boy deserves the opportunity to be able to foster their talents and reach their potential. Boys with a basic ability to sing as well as more experienced boys are encouraged to explore this excellent chance to develop not only their voice but to nurture a life-long skill, make strong friendships, build their confidence and self-esteem, and represent their community. As part of the event, boys will spend the afternoon doing some group and individual singing with the group's Director, and tour Mullingar Cathedral, including the museum and organ loft. Parents are warmly welcome to join for tea and coffee and to learn more about the Choristers’ unique opportunities and meet the team who take great care of them at the Cathedral. Both attendance and application to join the Choristers is free of charge. The Choristers sing at the Cathedral's 12:30 Sunday Mass in the autumn and at the 11am one in January, as well as other events throughout the year. New members will have the opportunity to sing at Christmas Mass if they wish. Trips and social activities take place throughout the year.
